FR 2.0 – Productive weekend for Pierre Gasly

The podium, Pierre Gasly begins to know him well. It must be said that this year in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, every race weekend, the young French hopeful always found an opportunity to ride it. The fourth meeting of the season on the Red Bull Ring, in Austria, was no exception to the rule. After a first race compromised by a five-place penalty received during the last trip to Moscow, the young Tech 1 Racing driver would begin his Austrian stay with a 7th place and the 6 points that went with it. ?The objective was to score a few points and to check that the car was at its optimum for the rest of the weekend. We used little downforce to be able to optimize the chances of overtaking in the first laps?. A strategy that worked.

Freed from any penalty, the Frenchman would be able to express all his talent during the second round. He set the best time in his qualifying series and started from the first row of the grid. Very fast in the race, Pierre Gasly will find an opponent equal to him as soon as the lights go out... “I got off to a good start, but (Oliver)Rowland pressed me against the wall and I had to take my foot off to avoid both of us going into the background,” explains the member of the French FFSA Circuit Team. “The car was working very well, I got back on Rowland and it was a big fight until the last lap. »

In contact with the Briton throughout the race, the young Frenchman never found the fault. ?It?s a little frustrating because I know that we could have done better in a more favorable context. But in the end, it is an overall positive result. I scored big points and I'm less than 20 points behind Rowland. Everything has to be done ! » he concluded.
