FR 3.5-C1: Oliver Rowland breaks records at Jerez

Oliver Rowland continues the victorious momentum of his title won during from the previous Le Mans meeting in Formula Renault 3.5. The Briton from Fortec Motorsports won the first race of the Jerez final in Spain, contested in tricky conditions, following the rains which affected the Andalusian region.

The 2015 champion took control of the race against Tom Dillmann (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), who started from pole, but was struck by bad luck in the form of a left-rear puncture which ruined his hopes of victory. Returning to the pits, the Frenchman will try the slicks bet, but the former GP2 Series driver will retire before the end of the event.

In the lead, Rowland will control the end of the event and is ahead of Egor Orudzhev (Arden) under the checkered flag, the podium being completed by Matthieu Vaxivière (Lotus). With this eighth success in 2015, Rowland surpasses the score of Carlos Sainz who bagged seven victories in 2014.

The top 10 is completed by Nyck De Vries (DAMS), Jazeman Jaafar (Fortec Motorsports), Tio Ellinas (Strakka Racing), Nicholas latifi (Arden), André negrao (International Draco Racing), Roy Nissany (Tech 1 Racing) and Yu Kanamaru (Pons Racing). Aurélien Panis (Tech 1 Racing) retired.

The second Jerez race will take place tomorrow Sunday at 15:30 p.m.
