FR 3.5 – C2: Sam Bird wins at home

Sam Bird took advantage of Marco Sorensen's retirement at the end of the race to take his second victory of the season in Formula Renault 3.5. Antonio Felix da Costa and Jules Bianchi complete the podium.

FR 3.5 – C2: Sam Bird wins at home

Second fastest in qualifying, Marco Sorensen (Lotus) took advantage of Jules Bianchi's poor start to take first place at the first corner. Despite the pressure exerted by Sam Bird, the Dane held on and thought he would secure his second victory of the season, but a puncture in the penultimate loop forced him to retire. The Briton, firmly established in second position since the start of the event, took the opportunity to win at home on the Silverstone circuit.

Author of an intelligent race which allowed him to move up from ninth to second place, Antonio Felix da Costa won his first podium in Formula Renault 3.5. Despite a difficult start to the race due to a bad start, Jules Bianchi finished in the Top 3. He was ahead of his compatriot Arthur Pic (Dams), who was able to make his way through the hierarchy after losing numerous places in the first lap. .

Today's performance is to Alexander's credit Red. The American was unable to participate in the second qualifying session of the weekend last night because his car could not be repaired. He therefore started Race 2 in 26th position to finish in fifth place ahead of Will Stevens and Nico Müller. Nick Yelloly completes the Top 8 ahead of championship leader Robin Frijns, who fell down the order late in the race. Vittorio Ghirelli enters the points for the second time of the weekend with his 10th place.

Thanks to his victory, Sam Bird regains second place in the championship and is only five points behind the Dutchman Robin Frijns. Jules Bianchi is third, six points behind the leader.
