FR 3.5 – Frijns looks back on his clash with Bianchi

Robin Frijns has an exemplary career in the World Series by Renault. The Dutchman won the Formula BMW, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5 Series titles in quick succession, after having distinguished himself again this year by winning no less than three victories. The Fortec Motorsports driver was in an ideal position yesterday on the Barcelona grid for the last race of the season since he started ahead of his rival Jules Bianchi and had regained control of the Championship following the Frenchman's poor performance on Saturday. Nevertheless, the resident of the Ferrari Diver Academy regained the advantage over its rival and was on the verge of regaining the number of points necessary to obtain the coronation when the Dutchman attempted a desperate maneuver to regain his position. The contact put the reserve driver of the Force India team offside, thus ensuring the coronation for his opponent who will subsequently take a symbolic penalty of 25 seconds for his responsibility in the collision.

?Regarding the race, Jules Bianchi overtook me, I did everything to pass him as quickly as possible. We touched each other. I think it’s a fact of racing,” defends the new champion of the discipline, who would certainly have preferred to win his title in a better way after such a flamboyant season. “I am the first Rookie since Robert Kubica to win this championship. It is thanks to the fantastic work we have done with Fortec Motorsports since winter testing that we are here. Now my goal is Formula 1. It begins with tests with Red Bull Racing and Sauber. Nothing is won and nothing is easy in this world, even with three titles in a row, but we are working on it. »
