FR 3.5 – Perfect day at Spa for Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen did not tremble at Spa-Francorchamps despite the winter conditions which forced the organizers of the World Series by Renault to shorten the qualifications. Starting from pole ahead of Antio Félix da Costa (Arden Caterham) and Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin), the Dams driver quickly widened the gap on the Portuguese, while Arthur Pic (AV Formula) took advantage of the Malaysian's poor start to move up in third place. Meanwhile, Nigel Melker (Tech 1 Racing) made a fantastic start from tenth position to move into fourth place on the fifth lap. However, the race was interrupted shortly after following a collision between Nico Müller (International Draco Racing), winner last weekend in Monaco, and Yann Cunha (AV Formula) which resulted in the safety car coming out.

Nigel Melker took advantage of the restart to take the advantage over Arthur Pic, while Marco Sorensen (Lotus) moved into the top five by overtaking Nikolay Martsenko (Pons Racing). The leading positions did not change until the finish and Kevin Magnussen thus became the first driver of the season to win two races (first success at Motorland Aragon) and thus increase his lead in the Championship over Stoffel Vandoorne (Fortec Motorsports) who only finished 13th. “It was a difficult race”, commented the winner. “I was threatened for a long time by my pursuers. The intervention of the safety car was long and we had to stay focused. Antonio was perhaps faster but I was able to maintain the lead. It was important to win today. I am obviously satisfied with my result. »
