FR 3.5: The first for Nick Yelloly

Nick Yelloly was able to get the best start to take the lead in the race to put out the lights. But the Comtec Racing driver did not have time to build a lead as the safety car entered the track following a collision. Daniil Move (P1 Motorsport) and Richie Stanaway (Lotus) stalled on the starting grid and Giovanni Venturini (BVM Target) was unable to avoid an accident with the New Zealander. Meanwhile, Kevin Korjus (Tech 1 Racing), Alexander Red (Arden Caterham), Nico Müller (International Draco Racing) and Walter Grubmüller (P1 Motorsport) collided at the first corner.

Nick Yelloly was ahead of Carlos Huertas (Fortec Motorsports) and Jules Bianchi (Tech 1 Racing) at the restart. Arthur Pic (Dams) tried to stay in the top five before being caught by Jake Rosenzweig (ISR) causing both drivers to retire. The last Frenchman on the track managed to gain the advantage over the Spaniard and finally ranked second ahead of Kevin Magnussen (Carlin) and Robin Frojns (Fortec Motorsports). “The start was hot”, admits the Force India reserve driver. “I blocked a wheel at the front and lightly hit Nick. Then it was not easy to overtake Carlos Huertas. I succeeded then I came back to Nick. I was quite confident because my tires were in good condition. Only, I lost engine power at the end of the race. Nick was perfect, well done to him and thank you to my team. It's good to start the championship like this. »

Following a technical inspection on the car of the Tech 1 Racing driver where the technical commissioners noted a non-compliance in the stacking of the limited slip differential discs, Jules Bianchi was downgraded. The ranking is suspended following Tech 1 Racing's appeal.
