Recovery period for FRECA and Alessandro Giusti. After a mild winter without driving or participation in the FRMEC (former F3 Asia) unlike some of his comrades, “Sandro” returned to the track in Barcelona a few days ago for the first official tests of the year.

On the program for this first round, two days each with two three-hour sessions. The opportunity for the AUTOhebdo rookie to get his bearings again, having not driven a Tatuus T-318 since November. “ I felt very good, the G4 Racing driver tells us when debriefing his ride in Catalonia. The recovery was weird, I'm not going to hide it. It had been 3, 4 months since I had ridden. I wasn't too comfortable during the first session because everything hadn't returned yet. Then I found the rhythm again from my 3e morning relay."

Gradually in the game, Alessandro Giusti even completed the first session at 2e place just over a tenth behind Laurens van Hoepen (ART Grand Prix) who is repeating in the category. If he had encountered some difficulties while driving his new car At the end of last year, Sandro this time did not suffer physically to the point of being one of the most active drivers on the track.

« I was very comfortable with the car, he admits. I was the only one to do so many race simulations. I made 3 in total. We started each day with qualifying runs and in the afternoon we focused on the simulation. In qualifying, we had a good pace which allowed us to concentrate more on the race simulation. It was great overall. The first was complicated with a lot of degradation. We were able to resolve this problem later.."

Final adjustments for Alessandro Giusti

Following the Barcelona tests, the rookie AUTOhebdo headed to the Paul-Ricard circuit for two new days of testing. On site, the new member of the French FFSA Circuit team had a little more difficulty. Nothing surprising according to him.

« We suspected that it was going to be more difficult than in Barcelona where we did not try different things unlike in Castellet, he emphasizes while he is the only driver of the Swiss team at the moment. I'm not used to it. In terms of settings we were not at the best. We did different tests in the afternoon, during race simulations and things were much better. The good thing is that we understood what we were missing at the end of the second day when I was behind Rafael Câmara because the Prema was very fast at Le Castellet. It has a mechanical grip that we lacked. But there are tracks like that, where we know it will be complicated »

Overall, Alessandro Giusti came out of these 4 days of testing with a smile. Happy to have been able to return to the track, the Habs even gave themselves a very good mark. “ 8 out of 10 knowing that I hadn't ridden since mid-November unlike others who had done the FRMEC or who are repeating. So it's not bad in the end for me."

The only G4 Racing driver confirmed for the 2023 season now has a final test phase at Monza ahead of him before the start of the season at Imola on April 22 and 23.
