Very long morning for the FRECA drivers near Barcelona this weekend. Scheduled for 9:00 a.m., qualifying was postponed by more than an hour due to thick fog on the Catalan track. After a long neutralization, the race management decided to send the 35 cars onto the track, putting aside groups A and B for the first time this year. And after 15 minutes, it was Paul Aron (Prema) who emerged victorious.
On a constantly evolving track, the Estonian waited until the final moments of qualifying to climb to the top of the timesheet. Thus, Paul Aron completed his best lap in 1'40 as the checkered flag had just been waved. On the line, the Prema driver was ahead of Dilano Van't Hoff (MP Motorsport) by just under two tenths, as was Eduardo Barrichello (Arden).
Bernier and David not far away
The fastest man in the two free practice sessions the day before, Victor Bernier (FA Racing) long believed in pole position. Constantly leading these qualifications, the Habs ultimately failed to resist the rise of Paul Aron and company. Even if he was beaten by the Estonian, the Frenchman put in a good performance with the 5e time just ahead of his compatriot Hadrien David (R-ace GP). Enough to hope for a great Race 1 this Saturday (13:00 p.m.).
Bad morning on the other hand for the strong men of the championship. Leader since the start of the season, Dino Beganovic (Prema) could not do better than 11e on the grid almost 4 tenths behind the poleman. His runner-up Gabriele Mini (ART Grand Prix) finished 13the and will have to raise his voice if he wants to postpone the coronation of the Swede who has a match point this weekend.
