Victor Bernier: “Everything I was looking for since the start of the season, I got it this weekend”

Despite two retirements in as many races, Victor Bernier stood out in Barcelona last weekend. Between performance and pure speed on the track, the Habs have often been in the leading group but luck has not accompanied them.

First of all, how are you after your accident with Dino Beganovic in Race 2 on Sunday?

It's better. I suffered a big kickback when I hit Beganovic, so it's quite a shock. My steering wheel did a 360 in less than a second and I had my hand on it. I couldn't do anything about it.

Should we be worried about your presence for the final at Mugello next weekend?

I'm going to take an x-ray but there's nothing broken. I currently have a large bump with a small sore. Worst case scenario it's a sprain but I can move my wrist just fine. That should do it for the final.

With hindsight, do you think the overtaking was possible in turn 5?

I came too far. Right now, I regret my action but at the time I told myself that maybe it could pass. It's rare but Beganovic wasn't fast at all. He suffered from impressive (tyre) degradation. Lorenzo Fluxá (R-ace GP) overtook him two laps before so I thought why not try my luck in turn 5. He was braking early everywhere on the circuit so why not go there. In the end, I think he didn't see me even though I got up to him but only at the middle of his car. It wasn't enough and I touched it...

Of course you didn't finish both races, but overall you had a very solid weekend, didn't you?

Exactly. Everything I was looking for since the start of the season, I got it this weekend. Apart from the two races, in terms of performance and speed it was great. I should have easily placed myself in the Top 3.

How do you feel about the final at Mugello?

I will try to repeat a weekend identical to that of Barcelona in terms of performance and take points because I don't know how it is possible to have such a performance and not score any. It's horrible. During the first race I couldn't do anything about it, it was an electrical fault. Then the second is an incident.

Do you think you can continue your momentum at Mugello?

Winter testing last year went pretty well. I rode there with G4. Mugello is a fairly technical circuit and it's not easy to be fast there. It's going to be very hard to replicate the Barcelona weekend in terms of performance because we were very fast there.
