FR2.0-C1: De Vries unchallenged at the Nürburgring

Nyck de Vries (Koiranen GP) didn't take long to take the lead in Race 1 of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 on the wet Nürburgring track. The Championship leader took the advantage over pole sitter Alex Albon (KTR) when the lights went out and never again gave his pursuers the slightest chance. The fight for the last step of the podium, on the other hand, was much more lively. Briton Jack Aitken finally completed the podium after taking the lead over Andrea Pizzitola (Manor MP Motorsport) and Nick Cassidy (Koiranen GP).

The Frenchman ultimately only finished seventh after giving way to Dennis Olsen (Prema Powerteam) and Charles Leclerc (Fortec Motorsports). Nick Cassidy had to settle for eighth position ahead of Victor Franzoni (China BRT) and Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing). Aurélien Panis (ART Junior Team) finished just outside the points. But the loser of the event was Bruno Bonifacio (Prema Powerteam) who was only able to move up to 20th position after starting from the penultimate row.

Nyck de Vries now has a lead of 40 points over Dennis Olsen who becomes his closest opponent. Bruno Bonifacio drops to third place, three points behind the Norwegian.

Qualifying for Race 2 of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 will be contested tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. Departure will follow at 15:25 p.m.
