FR3.5-C1: Sainz Jr on pole at the Nürburgring, Gasly behind

After scoring only eight points in Moscow, Carlos Sainz Jr (Dams) recovers by winning pole in Formula Race 1 Renault 3.5 Series on the Nürburgring circuit after a session shortened by a few minutes following a delay due to poor visibility conditions. The resident of Red Bull Junior Team completed a lap in 1'40"280 to beat Fortec drivers Oliver Rowland and Sergey Sirotkin by a few thousandths. Roberto Merhi (Zeta Corse) will complete the second row ahead of Marlon Stockinger (Lotus) who is only a tenth behind.

However, Pierre Gasly (Arden Motorsport) is the big loser of the session, the Frenchman having only taken 17th place on the grid with more than eight tenths behind. His compatriot Matthieu Vaxivière (Lotus), who is making his return to competition following his accident in Monaco where he suffered a fractured vertebra, will start alongside him. Norman Nato (Dams) was also in difficulty, achieving only the 15th time.

Race 1 of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at the Nürburgring will be contested from 12:35 p.m.
