FR3.5 – Da Costa winner, Frijns becomes leader again

Race 1 seemed to be promised to Jules Bianchi (Tech 1 Racing), the Frenchman who topped the Championship taking pole in Barcelona while his opponent Robin Frijns (Fortec Motorsports) only started from sixth. But the penultimate event of the season chose a very different scenario. The pilot of the Ferrari Driver Academy initially missed its start, leaving Sam Bird (ISR) and Antonio Felix da Costa (Arden Caterham) battling for the lead, only to find themselves fifth after the first lap behind their Dutch rival and Kevin Magnussen (Pug).

The Portuguese manages to overcome the Briton and quickly builds a good lead, securing him his third victory of the season. Sam Bird has to settle for second place ahead of Robin Frijns who is focusing on the result of his opponent Jules Bianchi. The Tech 1 Racing driver tries to overtake Kevin Magnussen, but the Frenchman spins while carrying out his overtaking maneuver and ultimately has to settle for seventh place. Will Stevens (Carlin) failed to reach the podium in front of his Danish teammate, while Kevin Korjus took advantage of the Force India reserve driver's mistake by taking sixth position. Arthur Pic (Dams) fails to reach the top ten, his position on the grid, after being overtaken by Aaro Vainio (Team RFR).

Robin Frijns takes control of the Championship with just one race remaining in the season with four points ahead of Jules Bianchi. “Starting sixth, I needed a good start and it went well”, comments the new Formula leader Renault 3.5 Series. “I quickly noticed that I couldn't keep up with the pace of the first two. So I focused on Kevin Magnussen. I managed at the end of the race. I'm first in the championship again, but tomorrow everything remains to be done? »
