Franco Colapinto wins race 1 ahead of Hadrien David

Apart from a nice second place a few weeks ago obtained near Zandvoort, Franco Colapinto (MP Motorsport) had shown nothing all season, after having finished third in the last edition of the Formula Renault Eurocup behind the untouchables Victor Martins and Caio Collet. In Austria, the Argentinian set the alarm clock by taking pole on Saturday morning, but above all he made it happen by winning race 1 at Spielberg, ahead of Hadrien David (R-ace GP) and Paul Aron (Prema).

As often in Regional Formula by Alpine, the key is getting off to a good start. His front row companion, his ex-teammate Hadrien David (R-ace GP), seems to be a little better off, but not enough to take control at the first corner. The solid Argentinian kept the reins and resisted the Habs in the first part of the race, before taking a good second lead afterwards.

A performance which almost allows him to double his total points, since by pocketing the 25 units of victory, he now has 61 points in the championship. As for the favorites, Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix), the undisputed leader of the championship, finished 5th and lost eight points to his runner-up Hadrien David but still retained a fifty-two lead.

The other Frenchman, the rookie Isack Hadjar (R-ace GP), comes away with the point of tenth place. Heckled at the start when he started from 8th position, the Habs were overtaken at the start of the race by his teammate Zane Maloney (R-ace GP). But his direct opponent in the race for the rookie championship, the Italian Gabriele Mini (ART Grand Prix), finished behind him in 12th position. Also note the good result of Gabriel Bortoleto (FA Racing), who took the points for seventh place and signs the best performance of his season. Qualifying for Race 2 will take place this Sunday at 8:30 a.m., before the race scheduled for 12:50 p.m.
