GP3 – First success for Nyck de Vries, retirement of Leclerc

Nyck de Vries (ART Grand Prix) scored his first victory in the GP3 Series by winning Race 2 at Monza (Italy) ahead of Alex Albon and pole sitter Antonio Fuoco. The Dutchman slipped to third position after starting from the front row, but the driver of the French team managed to take control of the race by taking advantage of the safety car.

The event was interrupted due to a collision between ART Grand Prix drivers Nirei Fukuzumi and Charles Leclerc. The leader of the Drivers' classification was unable to avoid his Japanese teammate who resisted vigorously against the Monegasque. The latter nevertheless maintains a lead of 24 points over his main opponent Antonio Fuoco with two rounds remaining in the season. The Japanese will be penalized by three places on the grid for Race 1 in Sepang (Malaysia) on October 1.

Jake Dennis (Arden International), the winner of Race 1, finished just off the podium ahead of his teammate Jack Aitken. Arjun Maini (Jenzer Motorsport) followed in sixth place ahead of Alex Palou (Campos Racing), Artur Janosz (Trident), Ralph Boschung (Koiranen GP) and Jake Hughes (Dams).
