Leader of the championship after winning one of the two races at Imola during the inaugural round contested three weeks ago, Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix) dominated the pack during the first of the two qualifying sessions of the weekend, this Friday in Barcelona. Already fastest in free practice on Friday morning, he qualified ahead of two rookies: his teammate Gabriele Mini (ART Grand Prix/+0”135) and the surprising Mari Boya (Van Amersfoort/+0”269).
The Swiss will also be satisfied with the difficulties of his runner-up in the championship, the Spaniard David Vidales (Prema), only 19th while he is playing at home. Already solid at Imola, Paul Aron (Prema/+0”322) and Alex Quinn (Arden/+0386) qualified in the Top 5, just ahead of Dino Beganovic (Prema/+0”496).
On the French side, it’s a big disappointment for Hadrien David (R-ace GP). The Habs, victim of a mechanical problem even before completing a fast lap, will start in last position. His teammate Isack Hadjar (R-Ace GP/+0”668) finished as the best tricolor of the session with a final 8th place. Alexandre Bardinon (FA Racing) will start 30th.
Having missed the first round at Imola for different reasons, Thomas Ten Brinke (ART Grand Prix) and Franco Colapinto (MP Motorsport) finished 10th and 13th respectively. The second qualifying session will take place this Friday at 16:25 p.m. while Race 1 will be held on Saturday at 13:30 p.m.
