The announcements confirming a return to favor for the Pau Grand Prix keep coming. A few days after the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), the Euroformula Open confirms its presence in the Béarn city in 2022.
Canceled twice due to the coronavirus in 2020 and 2021, the last edition of the Euroformula Open at the Grand Prix de Pau dates back to 2019, where hopeful Billy Monger won at the end of a race with twists and turns. Starting from the pit lane with wet tires, the Englishman, who had both legs amputated following a British F4 accident in 2017, made a dazzling comeback from 13th row.
The CEO of GT Sport, the organizer of the Euroformula Open, Jesús Pareja, is delighted to add the French race to its rich calendar of nine meetings. “We are particularly happy to be able to return to Pau (…) There is no doubt that the Pau Grand Prix is a significant addition to our calendar and an exciting challenge for the teams and drivers. »
Curiously, the municipality of Pau, led by François Bayrou (MoDem) as well as the organizing committee (ASAC Basco-Béarnais) say nothing on the subject, while the date of the 79th edition was revealed both by the WTCR and the Euroformula Open (May 6-8).
