Liverpool take the lead

The start of the first race offered its share of upheavals in the standings, with Rangers and Olympiakos starting at the back of the pack. In the lead, Liverpool took the lead ahead of Corinthians, who had to battle against Tottenham to keep second place. During the pit stops, Corinthians (Pizzonia) lost their advantage and saw Anderlecht (Buurman) steal second position. Once again, Tottenham (Dolby) put pressure on to recover second position. But the positions remained unchanged and the three cars qualified for the super final. Far behind, Olympique Lyonnais (Panciatici) only managed a thirteenth place, which would however allow them to start the second race in sixth position.
