Mégane – Schothorst regains the advantage over Costa

Bas Schothorst seemed off to a bad start for the last meeting of the season in Barcelona. With 16 points behind Albert Costa (Oregon Team), the Dutchman only took seventh place on the starting grid for Race 1 while the local driver of the event started on the front row alongside pole sitter Kevin Gilardoni ( Oregon Team). The TDS Racing driver regained hope when his opponent for the coronation remained stuck at the start before finding himself in the lead at the head of the race following a collision involving Fabien Thuner (Oregon Team), Kevin Gilardoni, Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team) and Kelvin Snoeks (TDS Racing).

Following this accident, only Fabien Thuner was able to restart while Bas Schothorst took the lead in the race ahead of his teammate Wim Beelen and Thibault Bossy (Team Lompech Sport). Fabien Thuner had regained fourth place but the Swiss was unable to maintain the advantage over Toni Forne (Pujolaracing) and Jean-Charles Miginiac (Team Lompech Sport) and finally ranked sixth.

Bas Schothorst's sixth victory allows him to regain the lead of the Championship one race from the end of the season with nine points ahead of Albert Costa. “The start was ideal for me. I found myself in the lead, with a little success, which contrasts with the bad luck I have had for several races. On the other hand, I had two big scares at the end of the race because a Torino Motorsport driver, who was one lap away, hit me twice. I even spun on the penultimate lap. Does this leave me with a bitter taste? », wanted to highlight the winner. The outcome of the Championship remains uncertain since his Hispanic rival will start from pole tomorrow while he will start from eighth place.
