Tests: Chovet 2nd in a morning session disrupted by rain

After being disrupted by snow at Spielberg three weeks ago, FIA drivers F3 drove in the rain this Wednesday morning, at the start of the second phase of official pre-season testing which takes place over two days in Barcelona. In these wet conditions, Victor Martins (MP Motorsport) took first place for a long time, on a track which no longer holds any secrets for him after having won four Formula races there. Renault Eurocup for the last two years.

Then the conditions improved as the track dried and it was finally the 16-year-old American Jak Crawford (Hitech Grand Prix) who was the fastest in 1’33”674. He beat Frenchman Pierre-Louis Chovet (Jenzer Motorsport/+0”349) and Kaylen Frederick (Carlin/+0”350). Also note the great performance of Reshad de Gerus (Charouz), who took 7th place in the session.

The ranking should still be taken with a grain of salt since only fifteen drivers emerged at the end of the session with slick tires. Victor Martins was not one of them and therefore finished 20th, ten seconds behind the best time. Note that the other favorites and the top teams have mostly decided to preserve their tires and not come out again. Clément Novalak (Trident) was one of them and therefore finished in 30th position. The drivers will return to the track at 14 p.m., until 17 p.m.
