Théo Pourchaire champion of German Formula 4 at the last minute

The pressure was considerable on his shoulders. Arriving at the Sachsenring circuit for the final of the German Formula 4 Championship, Theo Pourchaire (US Racing) aimed to keep the lead in the general classification.

The young 16-year-old Frenchman was only one point ahead of Norwegian Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing), but he also had to monitor the strong comeback of Arthur Leclerc (US Racing), the little brother of Charles Leclerc

On a track renowned for its technicality, the outgoing French Formula 4 champion in the Junior category kept a cool head in Race 1. Second, the native of Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes) gained some breathing space from his rivals.

This trend was confirmed in Race 2, where his lead increased to 14 units, thanks to a fourth success of the season. "I know it's not over, analyzed the member of the Sauber Junior Team on Saturday evening. I still have to do a good last race. Dennis will start in front of me, I will have to be on his heels. »

Starting from eighth place in the final, Théo Pourchaire managed to get back to the foot of the podium. However, Dennis Hauger had started the turbo. The Norwegian scored the maximum number of points thanks to a success. However, this was insufficient to steal the crown from the Frenchman, who won by a tiny point!

Théo Pourchaire succeeds Jüri Vips (titled in 4) and Lirim Zendeli (winning in 2017) on the German F2018 list. This is the first time that a Frenchman has won this championship across the Rhine.
