Hat-trick for R-ace GP, Maloney wins ahead of Hadjar and David

Zane Maloney (R-ace GP) scored his first success in Formula Regional this Sunday, dominating Race 2 in Monaco. The Barbadian beat his two French teammates Isack Hadjar and Hadrien David, to offer R-ace GP the first hat-trick for a team since the recent creation of this new championship.

After having managed his start perfectly, Zane Maloney had to ensure a second one under Safety Car a few minutes later. The start of the race was indeed marked by a big crash on the climb to Sainte-Dévote, which resulted in a red flag.

At the origin of the incident, a collision between Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix) and William Alatalo (Arden) after the first turn led the Finn to find himself perpendicular to the track, on the climb. The drivers behind were unable to anticipate and this created a serious pile-up including Nicola Marinangeli (Arden) who saw his car completely turn over.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and after several long minutes of waiting, a new start was ordered under Safety Car. Under constant pressure from Isack Hadjar who was putting together the best laps, Maloney did not tremble.

The battle was interrupted by the exit of Paul Aron (Prema), who had the opportunity to take the lead in the championship. The Estonian slipped mid-race at Turn 1 and ended up in the rail. Isack Hadjar put his teammate under pressure throughout the end of the race, to the point of setting the fastest lap again, but Maloney made no mistake.

In the championship, Grégoire Saucy (ART Grand Prix) remains leader despite zero points this weekend. He is now thirteen points ahead of Paul Aron and fifteen over Isack Hadjar, new third in the championship after his Monaco meeting.
