WS F V8 3.5 – Fittipaldi champion, Chaves winner

Pietro Fittipaldi (Lotus) secured the title with one race remaining in the World Series Formula V8 3.5 by taking second place in Race 1 in Bahrain at the Sakhir circuit. Emerson's grandson only had to secure his position after seeing his title rival Matevos Isaakyan (SMP Racing by AVF) who started from pole abandon with a mechanical failure before the formation lap. The Brazilian thus secures a place in the Rookie Test of WEC contested this Sunday on the Sakhir circuit at the wheel of the Porsche 919 Hybrid.

“It was probably the longest race of my career. I knew second place was enough to win the title. I was worried after the first qualifying session, already thinking about tomorrow's race.", commented the last champion of the WS Formula V8 3.5 Series which will not be renewed in 2018.

For his debut in the discipline, Henrique Chaves (AVF) showed great potential as the Portuguese took victory in his first start in the discipline, after resisting pressure from Pietro Fittipaldi throughout the race.

Roy Nissany (RP Motorsport) completed the podium ahead of his teammates Yu Kanamaru and Tatiana Calderon. Alfonso Celis Jr (Fortec Motorsports) followed in sixth place ahead of Konstantin Tereschenko (SMP Racing by AVF).

Diego Menchaca (Fortec Motorsports) finished eighth ahead of René Binder (Lotus) who fell in the standings by missing his start before suffering a puncture following contact in the final laps.
