Yamamoto Super Formula champion at Fuji
And three! Naomi Yamamoto won Super Formula for the third time in her career, after the 2013 and 2018 seasons, this Sunday, December 20. However, the 32-year-old Japanese did not finish on the podium in this final at Fuji Speedway.
Indeed, thanks to the abandonment of pole sitter Tomoki Nojiri (Team Mugen) with a puncture, Naomi Yamamoto was able to slow down slightly. However, he had to stay ahead of his direct rival Ryo Hirakawa (Team Impul) to secure the title. It was sometimes heated, like after the pit stops, where the two challengers fought a duel over several laps.
At the front, Sao Tsuboi (Inging) escaped in front of Toshiki Oyu (Nakajima Racing) and Nobuharu Matsushita (B-Max), who scored his first podium in the discipline. On the French side, Sacha Fenestraz (Kondo Racing) finished eighth. The Formula Champion Renault 2.0 Eurocup 2017 can boast of having dominated his teammate Kenta Yamashita in all the qualifying sessions for his discovery season (7 to 0).
Charles Milesi (B-Max) did not complete a single lap following a spin during the formation lap.
