Marc Marquez, successfully operated in the United States

After getting the green light from his doctors for a new operation on last weekend in Italy, Marc Marquez flew to Rochester, Minnesota in the United States to undergo surgery on his right arm.

The procedure took place yesterday (local time) and was performed by Dr Joaquin Sanchez Sotelo and his team. “Today, we had the opportunity to operate on the right humerus of Mr. Marc Marquez,” explains the doctor. The procedure lasted approximately three hours. Despite the complexity of the procedure, the end result is satisfactory. The operation consisted of removing the two proximal screws of the posterior plate previously placed by Dr. Samuel Antuña in December 2020, followed by a derotation humeral osteotomy. This procedure involves making a cross-section of the humeral bone in order to rotate the humerus along its longitudinal axis. The degree of rotation performed today was approximately 30 degrees of external rotation. The humerus was stabilized in the new position using an anterior plate with several screws. The surgery was completed without incident. We wish Mr. Marquez a speedy recovery and a successful return to his professional career. »

Marquez will remain in the United States for the next few days to ensure his post-operative recovery before returning to Spain to continue his treatment program.
