Pol Espargaro takes pole at Silverstone

We thought the pole position of the British GP was promised to fabio quartararo The Frenchman seemed a cut above the others… but he was not.

The official Yamaha rider was, however, the first to go below the 1'59 mark with a lap in 1'58.990. This time could have been enough for him to win, but that was without counting on a last effort from Pol Espargaro who grabbed a little extra tenth to take pole position, his third in MotoGP, but his first on the Honda.

Jorge Martin, however, left doubts lingering just before the checkered flag. The Madrilenian had indeed completed an incredible lap in 1'58.0, but his time was canceled because he cut turn 8. The rookie therefore had to settle for fourth place behind Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo.

Marc Marquez will start from fifth place (equaling his best result since his return from injury) ahead of Aleix Espargaro. Jack Miller lifted the third Ducati in the hierarchy to seventh position ahead of Valentino Rossi who achieved his best qualification since the opening meeting in Qatar.

Winner two years ago at Silverstone, Alex Rins had to go through the repechage. He qualified tenth behind Johann Zarco, who also had to make a detour in Q1.
