After Fabio Quartararo's reaction on Monday via a story published on Instagram, it is Yamaha's turn to speak out regarding the penalty imposed on the Frenchman. The Japanese team, through its general manager Lin Jarvis, criticized the FIM's decision after the clash caused by the world champion between him and Aleix Espargaro.

“Lin Jarvis, Yamaha team principal, expresses his disappointment with the long-lap penalty that fabio quartararo received from the FIM commissioners for the next Grand Prix in Great Britain, following a racing incident with Aleix Espargaró on the 5th lap of the race in Assen", can we read in a press release published by the team on Tuesday.

In this same press release, Yamaha explained the reasons for its disagreement with the FIM regarding the penalty. The team based in Lesmo " consider that [the accident] This is a racing incident.” She defends the argument of a “honest mistake without malicious intent” from Quartararo.

The Japanese manufacturer also criticizes “the inconsistency with which penalties are applied by MotoGP commissioners during the 2022 season”. Yamaha takes the example of more serious antecedents which have gone unpunished, such as recently the Rins-Nakagami accident in Barcelona.

Yamaha cannot appeal the decision

Considering itself aggrieved by the penalty imposed on Fabio Quartararo for the next Grand Prix, at Silverstone (August 5-7), the Yamaha team would have liked to appeal the decision, but this proved impossible.

“We wanted to appeal the decision of the stewards on Sunday at the Assen circuit. But this type of penalty is not open to discussion or appeal. We then wanted to raise the issue with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Then again, such a question is also not subject to appeal, explains Lin Jarvis. It is precisely for these reasons that correct, balanced and consistent decisions must be taken by the commissioners in the first place and executed within a correct and reasonable time frame. »
