Andrea Crugnola leads the Roma Capitale rally at the end of the first day

The competitors of this 6th round of theERC began their race last night during a short 1,7 km super special stage in the shadow of the Colosseum. This time had no sporting interest, but seeing cars of rally dans une capitale est toujours un moment marquant. Vainqueur de cette ES1, Giandomenico Basso (Hyundai i20 Rally2) recevait cependant 10s de pénalité pour avoir anticipé le départ. Il laissait le fauteuil de leader à Damiano De Tommaso (Fabia evo) qui devançait Andrea Crugnola (C3 Rally2) de 1s6 et Simone Campedelli (Fabia evo) de 1s8. Ces trois Italiens ne se sont pas quittés durant la journée du samedi qui proposait 6 tronçons et 92,56 km chronométrés dans la région de Fiuggi au sud-est de Rome. Ayant réussi à trouver les réglages adéquats sur sa Citroën, Crugnola parvenait à déposséder De Tommaso de la première place et à rentrer au parc fermé avec 9s5 de marge. Coupable de deux nouveaux départs volés, Basso recevait une minute de pénalité supplémentaire qui l’écartait complètement du jeu. Voulant essentiellement inscrire des points pour le championnat, Efren Llarena ne s’est jamais mêlé à la lutte en tête contrairement à Yoann Bonato. Après avoir pris ses marques durant la matinée, le pilote Citroën réalisait une bonne après-midi en profitant de l’efficacité de ses Michelin dans la longue ES6 (29,08 km). Ce soir le Français n’est qu’à 8s7 de la 3^e step of the podium. Among the other tricolors, Emmanuel Guigou was first the author of a remarkable 3^e time in SS2 before going off the road in the next one leaving Raphaël Astier to dominate the RGT category. In ERC4, Laurent Pellier (Opel Corsa) managed to get the better of local Andrea Mabellini. However, nothing is decided between the two crews just like for the final victory. There are still 92,72 km to go, including two passages in the long Rocca di Cave (32,30 km) which promises to put the competitors and the tires to the test.
