Chris Ingram takes the European crown

4th of Rally of Hungary, last round of the European Rally Championship ERC 2019, Chris Ingram (Skoda Fabia R5) achieved the result sufficient to be crowned at the end of a round contested in difficult weather conditions in Central Europe.

The organizers were notably forced to cancel for safety reasons SS14, which was normally to conclude the rally, because of the terrain made treacherous by the rain. The race was therefore decided in SS13, with Alexey Lukyanuk (Citroën C3 R5) taking the lead before this final special.

But the Russian, also in the running for the title against Ingram, was cut short by a puncture, and had to cede the final victory to Frigyes Turan (Skoda Fabia R5). Same misfortune for Ingram, already the victim of a puncture in SS9 this morning, who fell from the final podium in favor of Callum Devine (Hyundai i20 R5).

4th, Ingram however secures the title with 141 points against 132 for Lukyanuk. Regular throughout the season, Chris Ingram however never won in 2019, finishing 2nd in the Canaries and in Cyprus.

He becomes the first Briton to register his name on the continental championship list, since Vic Elford in 1967. Saintéloc Junior Team is titled among the Teams.
