For this second round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the teams will this time travel to the Canary Islands. Among the 31 entrants, Andreas Mikkelsen and Jan Kopecky are likely to engage in a merciless duel given the absence of Juho Hänninen. After his victory in the Azores, the Norwegian is obviously the favorite. But Kopecky being an asphalt specialist, the reigning champion will not so easily have a round on this surface under his belt. Especially since for his part, the Czech missed the Azores, which will inevitably force him to attack to reposition himself in the title race.
The fight for victory may once again come down to a fight between the Skoda drivers. However, let's not forget Sepp Wiegand and Herman Gassner (Skoda Deutschland) Jr who could well come and hinder the two favorites. As for the route, the organizers are announcing a route lengthened by 50 kilometers for a total of 241 kilometers spread over 15 special stages. The departure of rally is scheduled for this Friday at 7 a.m. The verdict of this round will be known on Saturday around 18:15 p.m. when the competitors return to Las Palmas, the center of the rally.
