Live from the Monte-Carlo Rally

The oldest of the great winter classics has not aged a bit. Better still, she finds a second youth. After years of regulatory restrictions WRC, the Automobile Club of Monaco has brought back the old route since its event counts for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The 78th edition does better than the previous one by bringing together all the highlights of the rally like Burzet, Antraigues, Saint-Bonnet, the Col du Perty and the night of Turini, to finish.

The snowflakes have fallen since Henry Rougier?s victory in 1911 on his Turcat-Méry, but the magic of Monte-Carlo remains. Building on a successful first experience in 2009, Eurosport is embarking even further on the adventure by taking the challenge of broadcasting live (a world first) all the specials with the exception of the prologue – which will only serve to determine the order of departures for the first stage – and for SS 11 due to the transfer of the technical teams from Drôme to Monaco. Between live broadcasts, multiple rebroadcasts and stage summaries, dozens of hours of air time will be devoted to the Monte-Carlo rally, to the delight of fans who will not have the chance to watch. get on the course.

On-board cameras, ground cameras, helicopter camera: the Eurosport system has already been tested several times this season in IRC. The difficulty will be to duplicate the system on each event with some overlapping. The performance should be improved in terms of the intermediate times essential for a good understanding of the test. It's not always easy to choose to show one or the other of the fifteen or twenty cars which, for example, will compete simultaneously in the Antraigues special, 45 km long. In the event of a fortuitous interruption of a special stage, a plan B will be activated with a team of journalists present in the service park.
