ERC – Consani and Bonnefis ready for the Canaries

After winning the Production Cup last year in the IRC Series, Robert Consani will once again seek to establish himself in the category by starting his program this weekend with the Rally of the Canary Islands which he will compete alongside his new co-driver Thibault Gorczyca. Although victory will be difficult, the Provençal is enthusiastic. “I am very happy to arrive in the Canary Islands with pilot status Renault. This rally is a good memory for me, I won my first victory there with the Mégane. The car received a very good reception from an enthusiastic public very attached to Renault. We will go for victory if we can but we do not forget that the objective is to go to the end of each rally and collect as many points as possible. In the Canaries, we will have a tough opponent in the person of Andreas Aigner, who will drive a four-wheel drive. I am confident because our first tests went very well. The collaboration with Thibaut, my new co-driver, felt natural because we knew each other well. We are ready for this great adventure! »

Robert Consani will not be the only Renault Sport driver to compete in the Canary Islands Rally as Germain Bonnefis will make his debut at the wheel of the Mégane RS N4 after winning the French Gravel Rally Championship title last year. The new recruit from Losange intends to make a cautious start to get his bearings behind the wheel of his new vehicle. “I was pleasantly surprised, even if I had to adapt my driving. I quickly had a good feeling with the car and I was able to gain confidence as I passed. Once the adaptation time has passed, I hope I will be able to show my peak of speed. But speed rhymes with wisdom, a championship is played out throughout a season, combining performance and reliability. In the first stages, I will try to stay focused on the notes and my driving, without looking too closely at the times of our opponents. If we are confident, we can then increase the pace. But I am already certain that I will have fun with the Mégane. »
