Esapekka Lappi (Skoda) achieved a very solid first stage in Rally of Ireland by achieving the scratch in the first seven special stages. However, Craig Breen held up well on the news Peugeot 208 T16 R5 and even set the best time in the last three courses to come back just 12 seconds behind the Finn. His teammate Kevin Abbring completed the provisional podium until his radiator once again forced him to throw in the towel.
Robert Barrable (Fiesta R5) completes the top three with only eight seconds ahead of Sepp Wiegand (Skoda). Sam Moffett (Fiesta RRC) completes the top five, 16 seconds ahead of Robert Consani's 207 S2000. Josh Moffett (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) occupies ninth position and leads the Production category behind the Fabia S2000 of Neil Simpson and the Citroën DS3 R3T of Daniel McKenna who leads the 2WD.
The second stage of the Rally Ireland will still have a nice section in store with eight stages to go.
