ERC – Kubica reflects on his Canary Islands outing

Robert Kubica had done the hardest part Rally from the Canary Islands by dominating this asphalt event head and shoulders at the wheel of his new Citroën DS3 RRC against opponents who had solid experience. The Pole took all the scratches in the first stage which included eight stages and took the lead with a good lead over Jan Kopecky, his closest pursuer, who was more than a minute behind the leader. But the former Renault driver F1 Team made a mistake in San Bartolomé de Tirajana (SS10), retiring following a big impact with a safety barrier. This experience is strangely reminiscent of last year's Rallye du Var, which the former F1 driver outrageously dominated in a C4. WRC before abandoning his co-pilot following an error in his notes.

But Robert Kubica must this time take responsibility for his exit from the road where he misses a great opportunity to make a sensational entrance into ERC. “We were in a rapid descent”, commented the Pole on the discipline’s website. “We had a fairly fast corner where it was necessary to brake a little hard to get into third. Unfortunately, I lost the rear of the car when I hit the brakes and had to reduce the pressure to avoid spinning on a road that was very narrow. I was no longer in control after that. I was sideways before the turn, I tried to take it as best I could but I hit the safety barrier. I hadn't slowed down enough and I hit with the left rear. The front then returned to the barrier. This day is the opposite of the day before. This is very disappointing but we must move forward with this experience in mind. »
