ERC – Rally Latvia postponed due to weather

Le Rally of Latvia scheduled for February 5 to 7 has been postponed to a later date due to exceptional weather conditions. Although temperatures were cold at the start of the year, the mild weather and rain in recent days have melted the snow on the sides of the roads. The conditions are now unsuitable for holding the rally.

“The safety of an event depends on multiple factors, whether for competitors or spectators”, commented Janis Krastins, chairman of the Rally Commission of the Latvian Automobile Federation. “When the roads are wet, the first cars would destroy the roads so much that the medical teams would have difficulty intervening quickly in the event of an accident on a special stage. »

“Some have suggested that we move from studded tires to dirt tires. I must remind you that this is not possible, not only due to FIA regulations, but it is also dangerous for spectators. On such wet roads, dirt tires would have very little grip and the risk of loss of control would increase significantly., added Janis Krastins.

Season 2016 ofERC should therefore begin with the Canary Islands Rally scheduled for March 11-13.
