Mads Ostberg (Ford Fiesta R5) fought a superb duel all day long with Kajetan Kajetanowicz (Fiesta R5) for the leading position in the Rally from the Canary Islands (Spain). The pilot M-Sport held up well to the reigning European champion until he went off the road in the last special of the first stage in Santa Lucia. The Pole thus finds himself in the lead with 22”7 ahead of Alexey Lukyanuk (Fiesta R5), his closest pursuer.
Robert Consani (Peugeot 208 T16 R5) is on the provisional podium almost two minutes from the race lead after taking advantage of the mechanical problems of Ivan Ares (Fiesta R5) who finds himself tenth. The Frenchman is under pressure since Luis Monzon Artilles (DS 3 R5) follows him less than eleven seconds behind.
Antonin Tlustak (Skoda Fabia R5) saw his chances disappear from the start of the event with transmission problems causing him to lose around ten minutes.
The second stage of the Canary Islands Rally will start tomorrow from 10:05 a.m. (French time).
