ERC – Škoda also enters the race for R5 cars

After Peugeot , Ford and Citroën, it is now Škoda's turn to develop a machine meeting R5 regulations. Based on the road version of the Fabia, the new Czech weapon should be available from the 2015 season.

“The new car of rally R5 will be equipped with a 1,6L turbo engine complying with FIA regulations. This is a big change compared to the current 2,0L naturally aspirated engines, revealed Michal Hrabánek, director of Škoda Motorsport. The R5 category will succeed the Super 2000 and it is logical for Škoda to develop a car meeting these regulations. At present, we believe that it will be approved in mid-2015,” he concluded.

Remember that in 2014, two R5 cars will be approved: the Peugeot 208 T16 and the Ford Fiesta R5. Citroën should launch its DS3 R5 later this year. Škoda therefore took the time to think before developing a car capable of fighting against its adversaries. Will this choice be the right one? Response within two years.
