Andreas Mikkelsen (Skoda) had regained the lead of the Rally of Sanremo in the first stages of the second stage. But Freddy Loix (Skoda) took the lead again just before leaving for service by signing the scratch on the last course. The Norwegian finished just 2?5 behind the leader with only three special stages remaining.
Thierry Neuville (Peugeot ) was the strongest contender of the morning. The Belgian took the scratch in the first two stages of the morning to come back to just 4??4 from first place. The fight for victory seems to be destined for one of these three very impressive drivers since the start of the rally.
Bryan Bouffier (Peugeot) is not far away in fourth place. But despite his delay of 7??1 on Thierry Neuville, his hopes of victory already seem distant, as the gaps have remained so small since the start of the event. The Frenchman can nevertheless aim for a place on the podium.
Jan Kopecky (Skoda) seems destined to keep his fifth place. The Czech has a lead of 28??1 over Bruno Magalhaes (Peugeot). Bastiais Pierre Campana (Peugeot) returns to eighth place after losing time last night in the last Ronde special.
The crews will set out again to complete the three stages contested this morning. The first car will set off at 15:16 p.m.
