The Barum Rally has remained true to its reputation. In the region around Zlin, the asphalt on the roads is inherently slippery. It turns into a nightmare when the rain gets involved and that's exactly what happened during this penultimate round of theERC 2022. Leader after the super special run in town and at night in front of a hot crowd, Kopecky left command to Adam Brezik for the duration of a very complicated SS2. The former Skoda official driver then went on the attack and quickly took cover by opening up astonishing gaps. Perfectly mastering the treachery of these sections where it was very difficult to evolve with the right choice of tires, Kopecky won his 10e Barum, 7e consecutive. Announced as one of his main opponents, Filip Mares was quickly left behind due to a few errors. The Czech still managed to return to 2e place ahead of Simon Wagner by only 1s8! The Austrian also looked like a potential winner, but he made several small mistakes which took him away from his goal. Another big disappointment for local Erik Cais. The only driver with a Fiesta Rally2 in the middle of 10 Fabias, the former mountain biker suffered a puncture in the last special which caused him to lose the podium.
At the wheel of his Alpine, Raphaël Astier had a very good race. After leaving the super special to Manu Guigou, Astier escaped to the lead of the RGT Cup, mastering water slides and times with unsuitable tires. The tricolor finishes best two-wheel drive car. He is ahead of his compatriot Laurent Pellier who also performed flawlessly in the ERC4 category. With his Corsa, the 27-year-old driver was never worried by his opponents.
