Andreas Mikkelsen (Skoda) was the first leader of the Rally of the Azores. But Juho Hänninen, reigning champion of the discipline, took first place on the second special. The Finn finished the first day 4?3 ahead of Bruno Magalhaes (Peugeot ).
The Portuguese got off to a very good start for his home event. But his second place is threatened by Andreas Mikkelsen, who is close behind the 207 S2000 at 1??4. Jan Kopecky (Skoda) is also on the pace since the Czech is less than five seconds behind the Norwegian.
On the other hand, Bryan Bouffier (Peugeot) had a rather difficult start to the rally. The Frenchman is currently only in eighth position after having had to open the road on the first stage. However, he will be able to try to catch up today by benefiting from a cleaned road.
