Ogier: “The championship will be intense”

The good deal of Rally of Mexico 2019 is for Sébastien Ogier (Citroen). The Frenchman, winner for the fifth time on the only Central American round of the World Rally Championship (WRC), gets closer to four points behind the leader Ott Tänak (Toyota) au classement général.

" It's great. We came here for victory, we didn't hide it, explained the six-time reigning champion once he returned to the Léon service park. More, we took all five points from the Power Stage, so it’s perfect."

This success has a particular flavor: 11 years earlier, Sébastien Ogier made his World Cup debut on this same field. At the time, his co-driver Julien Ingrassia accompanied him aboard a Citroën C2 S1600 in the Junior WRC. “In 2008, I celebrated my first JWRC victory. It was like a dream to be there. It was the start of my World Cup career. “, he recalls.

This idyllic weekend does not disrupt the course that the Gapençais has set for himself, namely to evolve as regularly as possible at the front of the peloton. “As expected, the championship is going to be intense. Ott managed his rally well; starting in front and finishing second, it remains a very good result for him. The Toyota is fast on all terrains now. »

The next meeting is set in Corsica (March 28-31), an event which excites the leader of Citroën Racing. “There will be no sweeping phenomenon, which is rare in a season, it will be even better for the fight. I can not wait to be there. »
