2003 champion Matt Kenseth took pole position and set a new lap record at the Las Vegas track. He set a lap time of 28″589, at an average speed of 304 km/h! Kenseth leads Marcos Ambrose by 0″109 and Carl Edwards by 0″115.
Jeff Gordon somewhat missed his qualification by signing the 13th performance (+0″303), as did Jimmie Johnson 14th (+0″330), Juan Pablo Montoya 23rd (+0″448), Dale Earnhardt Jr 33rd (+0″767) or Robby Gordon 38th (+1″179).
