Their event not being included in the 2009 calendar of the WRC due to the alternation rule, the organizers of the rally of Japan had approached the IRC series like the ACM and the Monte-Carlo rally.
The economic crisis hit Japanese motorsport hard and rallying did not escape the tsunami. Scheduled for October 22 to 24, 2009, the Japan Rally (11th and penultimate round of the IRC championship) should not be organized this year.
The objective of the organizing committee is to postpone everything to 2010 with a first rally in July in Obihiro (IRC) and a second in October (WRC) in Sapporo.
