Surprise in Phoenix, during qualifying Nascar Sprint Cup Series, AJ Allmendinger was the fastest, taking the first pole position of his career in the discipline. His best qualifying result this season was 15th place on the starting grid for the Daytona 500. At Phoenix, he was faster than Scott Speed, Sam Hornish Jr and Marcos Ambrose.
The favorites are further away, Dale Earnhardt Jr is 5th, Juan Pablo Montoya 7th, Tony Stewart 11th, Jimmie Johnson 16th, Kyle Busch 17th, Mark Martin 23rd.
