ABT Sportsline confirms the return of René Rast in 2022

German team ABT Sportsline has officially confirmed René Rast as second driver for the 2022 season. DTM. Already a three-time champion (2017, 2019 and 2020), the 35-year-old driver is making his return to the category, alongside South African Kelvin van der Linde, third in the championship last year. The German is the most successful Audi driver of all time in DTM, with three championship titles, 24 victories and 20 pole positions in just four seasons.

“We have already started to approach René (Rast) at an early stage. We know his strengths as a rival in DTM. In Formula E, we got to know and appreciate him even better last season. We are extremely grateful to its management led by Dennis Rostek and to Audi Sport that it worked and that we can enter the battle for the 2022 title with a true dream team.", confided Thomas Biermaier, director of the team, in the official press release.

For his part, René Rast is relishing his return to a discipline that has seen him blossom in the eyes of the general public: “I’m really happy to be back in DTM after a one-year break. I never lost my appetite for DTM. Audi wanted me to concentrate fully on Formula E during the final season. I attended a few DTM rounds there and really liked what I saw. »

“With ABT, I will have almost the same team as in Formula E. My engineer remains the same and the same goes for my chief mechanic and the rest of the team. We are super trained. Continuing to work together just made sense. »

The 2022 DTM season will start in Portimão (Portugal) for the first two rounds of the season, from April 29 to May 1.
