A week after the announcement of Kurt Busch's decision to forgo the Playoffs, the 23rd XI made the decision to start Bubba Wallace at the wheel of his usual mount for the final stages.
If Kurt Busch's decision excludes him from the title race, his car bearing the number 45 remains well in contention in the owners' ranking, in 12th position, thanks to its qualification in the Playoffs obtained during Busch's victory in May at Kansas Speedway.
“Kurt earned his spot on the track in the playoffs, but is unable to complete the mission,” Steve Lauletta, president of 23XI Racing, told www.NASCAR.com. “We're still qualified for the owners' championship and now we're counting on [Bubba] and Bootie [Barker, his crew chief] and this team to take over the No. 45 and try to get the best result. »
Replacing Kurt Busch since his accident during the Pocono round on July 23, Ty Gibbs is going the opposite way, moving from the 45 to the 23, Wallace's usual car. Less pressure for the young driver still in the running for the Xfinity title.
