If Mattias Ekström (Audi) was the fastest in qualifying for Race 2 of the DTM at the Norisring, the Swede will have to move back three places on the grid following his penalty the day before for his contact with the Mercedes by Robert Wickens and Christian Vietoris.
It is therefore Tom Blomqvist (BMW) who will start on pole after finishing 16 thousandths behind the Scandinavian. Paul di Resta (Mercedes) will accompany him on the front row ahead of Nico Müller (Audi) and Mattias Ekström. Lucas Auer (Mercedes) is ahead of Maxime Martin (BMW).
Adrien Tambay (Audi) took eighth place while his compatriot Esteban Ocon (Mercedes) is 19th. The 24 drivers in the peloton are separated in less than half a second.
