Antonio Félix da Costa (BMW) took pole again at Hockenheim after having already won qualifying the day before. The Portuguese set a time of 1'32''525 and snatched first position for a lead of 15 thousandths against Gary Paffett (Mercedes), while the BMWs of Tom Blomqvist and Maxime Martin are on the second row.

All eyes will nevertheless be on the third row where the two title contenders, Marco Wittmann (BMW) and Edoardo Mortara (Audi), will start. The Italian, disturbed in the session by a mechanical problem, will need an exploit to make up for his 17 points behind the German.

Adrien Tambay (Audi) will start from 16th place after finishing four tenths behind the benchmark.
