Tom Blomqvist (BMW) set the best time in the first practice session of the DTM au Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (Austria) with a time of 1'23''941. The Briton was ahead of Edoardo Mortara (Audi) by a tenth while Timo Glock (BMW) was two tenths behind. Maximilian Götz (Mercedes) and Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) completed the top five.
Esteban Ocon (Mercedes) achieved the 14th time, eight tenths off the benchmark. His compatriot Adrien Tambay (Audi) is 17th, more than a second behind. Maxime Martin (BMW) set the last time of the session.
