Mike Rockenfeller (Audi A5 Coupé) set the best time in the first free practice session on the Red Bull Ring, in Autrice, achieving a time of 1:27:271. The German Dirk Werner (BMW) finished the session in second position ahead of the championship leader, Gary Paffett (Mercedes). Adrian Tambay, for his part, completed 42 laps to finish in ninth place, less than five tenths from Rockenfeller.
