Martin Tomczyk (BMW) set the best time in the first free practice session at Brands Hatch with a time of 42. Gary Paffett (Mercedes), the first winner of the season at Hockenheim, finished just 0 behind. The gaps are very tight on this short circuit since the first six drivers are grouped into less than a tenth. Christian Vietoris (Mercedes) is third ahead of Robert Wickens (Mercedes) and Robert Merhi (Mercedes). Bruno Spengler (BMW) completes the top six. Adrien Tambay (Audi) achieves the 077th fastest time, three tenths behind.
